It takes only one visit to Round Lake State Park to understand why people return year after year. One of the first things you will notice is how beautiful the lake is.  The tall firs that surround the lake will immediately capture your gaze. You will not be able to stop yourself from walking out onto the dock. Time will seem to stop as you look at the sparkling water, lilypads, swooping birds of prey, and the happy faces enjoying their day at the lake. At this point, the only hard decision you will make is deciding what to do. Round lake has great fishing from the dock or boat. Of course, there is also canoeing, paddleboating, swimming, sun catching on the beach, bird watching, picnicking, or whatever your heart dreams up.

The main trail at Round Lake is one of the most friendly trails you will ever hike.  This wide, wooded trail is easy on the feet due to all the pine needles that line the trail. There is just something so tranquil about this trail. It is beautiful all year round. You also have the option to walk along a trail that runs along the edge of the lake.  From this trail you can see eagles and blue herons, experience skunk cabbage, hear bullfrogs talk, and take in the serenity of the flowing, shallow areas of the lake.  If you decide to cross either of the two bridges while hiking, there is one area off of each bridge that requires a short uphill climb, maybe 50 yards. There are no significant elevation changes on the trails. You can also choose to hike all the way around the lake.  This trail stretches through beautifully wooded areas, tall grass, and old trees. The trails at Round Lake are good for the heart and mind.

Round Lake is very family friendly.  The entire park is very well maintained.  There are several picnic areas with tables and outdoor grills. A larger shelter can also be used, this shelter can be reserved. Canoes, paddleboats, and various other watercrafts can be rented. Life jackets and paddles are provided. The campgrounds are spacious and clean.  Bathrooms have mirrors over the sinks, flushing toilets, and the showers have hot water. Tent camping and RV spaces are in separate areas. The rangers do a good job keeping noise to a minimum during quiet hours. There is also a small store where you can buy souvenirs, ice, small food items, and ice-cream.  Round Lake is also centrally located. Take a day to visit Silverwood Theme park, only 30 miles away. Sandpoint, Idaho, 10 miles up HWy 95, offers a quaint downtown, swimming at City Beach, and both summer and winter activities up on Schweitzer Mountain.
